You’re just a fanboy if you don’t think this man pitched an absolute gem. It is so, so, so rare to have a night like tonight that isn’t forced by sportscasters. We saw a man who once destroyed the National League as a kid, a man who went on to become one of the most dominate pitchers ever. A man who got old, had arm problems, lost MPHs off of his fastball and failed (for him at least).
This very dramatic and talented man then stepped on the mound tonight against the best lineup baseball has to offer, at the age of 38, and dazzled. He embarrassed the best hitter of my generation. He gave up, by my count, 4 hard hit balls in 6 innings. Sometimes numbers don’t reflect how great a pitching performance was, especially within the overall narrative (which, I’ll admit, I’m a huge sucker for). This is one of those times.
A.J. was unreal, the Yanks tied up the series, meh. I’ll remember this game 5 years from now, though. I will. I’ll remember it because I got to see a player who I was in awe of growing up, a guaranteed hall-of-famer, have it one more time.
That never happens.
I’m thankful I got to see him work one more time and I’m greedily hoping for one more Pedro performance these playoffs.
